1-STAR GREAT TASTE AWARD WINNER 2024

“I want to cry with emotion. It’s my dream come true.”

Some coffees earn their place in the range because of how they taste. Rosely Hernandez does that, but it also means something rather more personal.

I first met Rosely Hernandez in 2018 when I visited Ocotepeque in western Honduras. Rosely is a member of AMPROCAL, a women’s coffee co-operative founded in 2007 in Pashapa La Labor to strengthen the role of female coffee producers in the region.

The co-operative began with just eight women and has since grown to more than 80 members.

This particular coffee is a microlot from Rosely’s family farm, Finca Terra Nuova, where she and her husband work together producing coffee, with Rosely herself responsible for marketing.

When I told her we were going to launch her coffee under her own name, she replied:

“I want to cry with emotion. It’s my dream come true.”

That rather stopped me in my tracks.

This is why Rosely Hernandez exists in the Danelaw range. It isn’t simply another seasonal single origin. There is a real person behind it, someone I’ve met, whose work and ambition I’m genuinely proud to be able to share with you.

The coffee is a washed selection of Pacas and Catuai, grown at 1,650 metres above sea level and carefully hand-picked at peak ripeness.

In the cup it is full-bodied, balanced and sweet, with tasting notes of dark chocolate, red grape and caramel.
