Kenya Kiangothe AA

From the southern slopes of Mount Kenya, this fully washed coffee comes from Kiangothe Factory in Kirinyaga, one of Kenya’s most celebrated coffee-growing regions. The factory is owned by the Kabare Farmers’ Cooperative Society and works with more than 1,300 smallholder farmers across Central Kenya’s fertile highlands.

About the coffee

Grown in deep red volcanic soil at around 1,700 metres above sea level, coffee cherries mature slowly in Kirinyaga’s cool conditions. The result is the clarity, brightness and complexity that make Kenyan coffees so distinctive.

Only ripe cherries are delivered to the factory. They are pulped using fresh water from the Kiringa River, fermented overnight, then washed, soaked and dried on raised beds. Careful turning, sorting and moisture monitoring help preserve a clean, precise cup.

Rooted in the community

Kiangothe’s cooperative supports its members with pre-financing for school fees, farm inputs and emergencies, alongside practical agronomy training in pruning, fertilisation and farm management. Water from processing is directed to soak pits away from natural water sources, while members are encouraged to plant shade trees, including macadamia, to strengthen the resilience of their farms for future harvests.
